0800 and the coffees brewing! Scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast then packed our lunch and went to town to see the London Bridge. The bridge was purchased from London in 1968 for about 2.4 million dollars. It took three years and another 4.5 million to transport it to Lake Havasu and assemble the bridge. The bridge was opened here in 1971. We walked under it along the lake shore and then up and across it and back. We walked through the beach park and looked at all the boats lined up along the shore and all the people sunbathing on the boats.
We ate our lunch at a park bench and enjoyed the sunshine. We then stopped into Safeway and picked up some hamburger buns for dinner, then headed back to camp.
We went on to Parker Dam before going back to camp. This is a nice little dam, at least the above ground part looks small, they had to go down 235 feet under the riverbed to hit solid rock to build this dam! We talked to the two security guards in duty who were very friendly. Prior to 9/11 you could go on a self guided tour of the power house. Now you can't even walk across the dam. We saw two gray herons flying nearby. According to the guards yesterday a bobcat tried to sneak up on one of the herons!
Then back to camp where the quail were waiting to greet us.
Dinner was hamburgers, beans and peaches. Then we cleaned up the trailer for an early departure tomorrow morning. |
