11/08/2006 |
We awoke at 7:00, the wind was gone and it was very calm. We had breakfast and headed south to Furnace Creek to inquire about the 49'er activities. We paid the fee and joined the 49'ers for 2006. |
Along the route to Furnace Creek we only saw one Tarantula, and a 7 legged one at that, I wonder if this was the same 7 legged Tarantula we saw last year at Scotty's Castle! |
The visitor center at Furnace Creek was crowded, we watched a short slide show about Death Valley then left.
There were hundreds of campers, RV's of all shapes and sizes at the Sunset "camp ground", really a big parking lot.
We decided to check out Texas Springs Campground, turned out to be a very nice campground enclosed by two small hillsides. There were a surprising number of open campsites so we decided to go back to Mesquite Springs and get thetrailer and move here. |
We selected and paid for spot B9, left two chairs to show the site was occupied and drove back north to get the trailer. After moving the trailer and setting up camp at Texas Springs we had lunch. |
Late in the afternoon we drove through Artists Drive. We stopped at an overlook to Artists Palette, got our chairs and sat and watched the sunset and shadows move across the hillside. Sunset today was at 4:44. |
We then headed back to camp and made hamburgers for dinner. We lit a campfire and sat and enjoyed the warm evening. The 49'ers were having a music show down at Furnace Creek, we could easily hear the music from our campsite! |
There was a group of coyotes on one of the hillsides surrounding Texas Springs campground, they serenaded us until I shown the Cyclops (the hugh 15 million candle power light) on them. The moon came up at 8:10 and was very bright, almost a full moon. We went to bed at 10:00. |
